How do I fix Android battery drain?

Updated September 10, 2026 · About 5 minutes · Battery & charging

Steps to check

  1. Check Battery usage for the last full day

Settings → Battery (or Battery and device care on Samsung). Sort by usage and note apps you barely opened.

  2. Lower brightness or use Adaptive brightness

A bright screen is often the biggest daytime drain. Try Adaptive brightness for a day and compare.

  3. Restrict background for one greedy app

Put the top unexpected app to sleep or Restricted battery use. Undo later if that app stops updating when you need it.

  4. Install pending system updates on Wi‑Fi

Stuck or half-installed updates can keep the phone busy. Update while plugged in during the day.

Normal vs. not

Usually normal

Heavier use on a bright screen, navigation, or camera. Battery drops faster, phone stays cool.

Worth a closer look

Phone hot while idle, or a single unused app dominating Battery usage every day.

Common questions

Does Battery Saver help?

Yes for short stretches. It limits background work and visuals. Use it when you need the phone to last, then turn it off when you can charge.

Is Adaptive Battery worth turning on?

Usually yes. It learns which apps you use and limits the rest. Give it a few days after you turn it on.
