How do I turn off keyboard vibration on Android?

The setting is inside your keyboard app. In Gboard, open the keyboard, tap the settings gear, tap Preferences, and turn off Haptic feedback on keypress (it may be called Keyboard vibration). On a Samsung Galaxy with Samsung Keyboard, tap the settings gear, then Swipe, touch, and feedback, then Touch feedback, and turn off Vibration.
Steps to check
Open your keyboard's settings
Open an app where you type, like Messages, and tap the text box so the keyboard appears. Tap the gear (settings) button at the top of the keyboard. If you do not see a gear, open the Settings app and search for keyboard.
Gboard: turn off vibration on key taps
In Gboard's settings, tap Preferences. Scroll down to the section about key taps and turn off Haptic feedback on keypress. On newer versions it may be called Keyboard vibration. If you only want a softer buzz, tap Vibration strength on keypress and lower it instead.
- Motorola You can also get here from Settings, then System (on some phones), then Languages & input, then Virtual keyboard or On-screen keyboard, then Gboard, then Preferences.
Samsung Keyboard: turn off vibration
In the Samsung Keyboard settings, tap Swipe, touch, and feedback, then Touch feedback. Turn off Vibration. You can also open these settings from the Settings app by searching for Samsung Keyboard. If you do not see a Vibration switch, your phone model may not offer keyboard vibration.
Turn off typing sounds too (optional)
The same screens control the clicking sound. In Gboard, turn off Sound on keypress. In Samsung Keyboard, turn off Sound under Touch feedback.
Samsung: check the phone-wide switch
On a Galaxy phone you can also stop the keyboard buzz for the whole phone. Open Settings, tap Sounds and vibration, then System vibration, and turn off the Samsung Keyboard switch.
Normal vs. not
Usually normal
Vibration staying off in the keyboard but still buzzing for calls or notifications. Those are separate settings and are not changed by the keyboard.
Worth a closer look
The keyboard still vibrates after you turned it off. Check that you changed the keyboard you actually use, since a phone can have more than one keyboard installed.
Common questions
- Will turning off keyboard vibration turn off vibration for calls?
- No. It only stops the buzz when you type. Calls and notifications keep their own vibration settings.
- Gboard's vibration switch does nothing. Why?
- Google notes that if your phone's own vibration settings are turned off, they override Gboard's setting. Check the vibration settings in the Settings app.
- Can I turn it back on later?
- Yes. Go back to the same screen and turn the switch on again.
