How do I make the text bigger on my Android phone?

Open Settings and type Font size in the search box at the top, then drag the Font size slider to the right until the preview is easy to read. To make icons and buttons bigger too, raise Display size (called Screen zoom on Samsung). The change happens right away, and you can move the slider back anytime.
Steps to check
Make the text bigger with Font size
Open Settings. The easiest way in is to type Font size in the search box at the top and tap the result. Drag the Font size slider to the right. A preview shows how text will look. Stop when it is comfortable to read. On Motorola, the slider is in Settings → Display → Display size and text.
- Samsung Settings → Display → Font size and style, then adjust the size.
- Pixel Settings → Accessibility → Display size and text → Font size.
Make icons and buttons bigger with Display size
Font size changes only the words. If icons, buttons, and menus also feel small, change Display size, which makes everything on the screen larger. Search Settings for Display size, then drag the slider. You can use both settings together. Motorola has Display size on the same screen as Font size.
- Samsung Settings → Display → Screen zoom, then adjust the slider at the bottom.
- Pixel Settings → Accessibility → Display size and text → Display size.
Make text darker and clearer
On the same Display size and text screen, turn on Bold text to make letters thicker and darker. Newer phones (Android 16 and up) also have Outline text, which adds a thin line around letters so they stand out from the background. On older versions, the similar option is called High contrast text. Samsung keeps its style options under Display → Font size and style.
On Samsung, try Easy mode for larger everything
If you would like a simpler Home screen with bigger items, open Settings → Display → Easy mode and turn it on. Samsung says it enlarges on-screen items, uses a high contrast keyboard, and helps prevent accidental touches. You can turn it off the same way.
If web pages or one app still look small
Google notes the font size setting does not apply to some apps. For websites in Chrome, tap the three dots at the top right, then Settings → Accessibility, and move the Default zoom slider. For a quick close look at anything, turn on Magnification: Settings → Accessibility → Magnification → Magnification shortcut. Then use the shortcut to zoom in and pinch with two fingers to adjust.
Normal vs. not
Usually normal
A few apps keeping their own text size. Google notes the font size setting does not apply to some apps. If a very large size makes a screen feel crowded, move the slider back one step.
Worth a closer look
Text suddenly huge or tiny when you did not change anything, or the screen zoomed in and stuck. Check Font size and Display size first, then use your Magnification shortcut again to zoom back out.
Common questions
- Will this make my text messages bigger too?
- Usually yes, because most apps follow the phone's Font size. A few apps ignore it. Look in that app's own settings for a text size or zoom option.
- How do I put it back the way it was?
- Move the sliders back. On recent Android versions, the Display size and text screen also has Reset settings, which puts font and display size back to the phone's original setting.
