How do I find my lost Android phone?

On another phone, tablet, or computer, open Google's Find Hub app or go to android.com/find and sign in with the same Google Account that is on the lost phone. Select the phone on the map. If it is nearby, tap Play sound so it rings at full volume for five minutes, even on silent. You can also mark it as lost or erase it if you need to.
Steps to check
Open Find Hub and sign in
Google's tool for this is called Find Hub (on some screens it may still say Find My Device). On another Android device, open the Find Hub app from Play Store if needed. On a computer or any browser, go to android.com/find. Sign in with the Google Account that was added to the lost phone. If you are helping someone else, use Guest sign-in and let them enter their account.
Select the phone and check the map
Choose the lost phone from the list. You may be asked for that phone's lock-screen PIN (Android 9 and up) or your Google password. The map shows a current or last-known location when Google can estimate it. Location can come from GPS, nearby Wi-Fi, or cell towers, so indoor pins are sometimes approximate.
If it is nearby, play a sound
Tap Play sound. The phone rings at full volume for about five minutes, even if it was on silent or vibrate. Listen around the house, couch cushions, and bags. Stop the sound from Find Hub when you find it, or wait for it to end.
If it is lost or stolen, lock it
Tap Mark as lost (wording can vary). This locks the phone with your PIN, pattern, or password and can show a message and contact info on the lock screen. Use this when you do not want someone else opening your apps. Only erase (factory reset) as a last step if you accept that all data on the phone will be deleted and you will need your Google password to set it up again.
Get ready now so it works next time
On a phone you still have: open Settings and confirm you are signed in to Google. Turn Location on. Open Security (or Security & privacy) and check that Find Hub / Find My Device / Allow device to be located is on. Set a screen lock (PIN, pattern, or password). Google turns Find Hub on by default when a Google Account is on the device, but it is worth confirming once.
- Pixel Settings → Security → Find Hub. Confirm Allow device to be located is on.
- Samsung You can use Google Find Hub the same way. Samsung also offers its own find options in some regions; the Google account method above works across brands.
If Find Hub cannot see the phone
The phone may be off, out of battery, or without Wi-Fi and mobile data. Find Hub may still show a last-known location. Call the number from another phone in case it rings. Contact your carrier about suspending service. If the phone was stolen, change your Google password and review devices signed in to your account.
Normal vs. not
Usually normal
Seeing the phone on the map within a minute when it has power and internet, or hearing Play sound from another room.
Worth a closer look
The phone never appearing under your Google Account even though you used it yesterday with that account. Confirm you signed in with the same account, then contact Google Account support if it is still missing from the list.
Common questions
- Does Play sound work if the phone is on silent?
- Yes. Google's help says Play sound rings at full volume for five minutes even if the phone is set to silent or vibrate.
- Will erasing the phone delete my Google photos in the cloud?
- A remote factory reset clears data stored on the phone. Photos already backed up to Google Photos in your account stay in the cloud. Anything only on the phone and not backed up is gone.
